Staff refused to take Scottish pound Sterling bank notes & claimed that our notes are note a UK currency? Sainsbury’s have many stores in Scotland, but now we are allegedly a foreign nation. Ironically, the two staff insisting this was the case were clearly not British by birth, nor upbringing, clearly identified through their accents. Ultimately, they are only following company policy, the usual nonsensical excuse being forgeries although not on this occasion, something I have never had & it isn’t difficult to verify with a basic bank note checker. This will no doubt amuse some people out there but it shouldn’t. When will Sainsbury’s advise their Scottish customers in Scotland that our notes are foreign currency? I certainly will be informing people of this outdated puerile discrimination. The Bank of England always honours Scottish pound sterling, that is an incontrovertible fact. Hiding behind unproven allegations of forgeries is not acceptable, precisely for the reasons I stated above. Not good Sainsbury’s, but I suppose we can always go elsewhere to get humiliated.
