Called on behalf of my mother who is 88 years old, banks with Barclays in Street in Somerset, called and was spoken to by a call centre. Mum lost her cheque book and I wanted to stop the cheque book and re order another cheque book for her. I am 250 miles from my mothers home address, simply trying to help an 88 year old. I have not asked once for any data or private date, although I have POA and see her statements each month!!! Not sure why I cannot speak to anybody in the branch where they know my mother and myself. The process involved in simply reporting a lost cheque book and trying to re order a new cheque book for mum is absolutely ridiculous, I am not asking for any private data simply reporting an incident. I spent 25 minutes on the phone to a call centre in Liverpool, which was an absolute waste of time. I was asked numerous questions which I replied to and because one of the answers was not ' near enough' in terms of an amount of money being paid in each month, they would not stop the cheque book and re issue a new cheque. WHERE IS THE COMMON SNSE IN THIS APPROACH, PLEASE. can Barclays speak to me and explain in simple terms why something so straight forward and simple needs to be so long winded and impossible. On the other hand I can walk straight into the branch and the cheque book would be stopped ASAP. Now I can see why Barclays are in such a mess, serious talk about absolute rubbish and all they go one about is security which is great but I am not looking to withdraw anything, I am attempting to report something! Ridiculous. I would NEVER recommend Barclays Bank to anybody, NEVER.
